Perfectly Posh Skin Care Product Reviews: Love/Hate?
Part of my "job" here under my pseudonym VeganAcneSufferers is to try and review new products for you guys.
This is both intimidating and exciting for me, as I get to experience new products, but I also run the risk of using a simply terrible product that makes me break out and I regret ever doing it in the first place.
Thankfully, this is not one of those tales.
To be honest, I had never heard of Perfectly Posh (which is weird, considering they have many great vegan products). This just means I've had my head in the gutter too long, I think. Either way, whenever I find out about companies that are cruelty free with vegan products, I'm all over it.
I had the pleasure of trying out a few of their products, a couple face masks, a bar soap, a cleanser, and a moisturizer. Let me take you on a little journey through my experience.
"Our deep-cleaning, facial mask uses kaolin, charcoal, and volcanic ash to clarify skin, then tones it with astringent spearmint and eucalyptus."
I found this mask to be extremely gentle and soothing. With kaolin clay and allantoin, this is no surprise; kaolin clay is one of the gentlest clays out there, it's perfect for people with very sensitive or irritable skin, but who still want a deep cleanse. Allantoin is also a fantastically soothing ingredient, also perfect for people with dry, sensitive, or easily irritated skin.
It went on smooth, dried without irritating my skin, and left my skin feeling clean and nourished.
Would I use it again?: I would!
Would I buy it?: Probably, yes! Get it here.
Bottom line: I enjoyed it!
"Take it all off when you smooth on this creamy, detoxifying blend of muds and clays that help expel harmful pollution and reveal youthful, healthy skin."
This one was particularly fun for me because I had never had a "body" mud experience. Although I suppose I can use most any clay/mask on my body, this one mentioned the body and so I was eager to try something new, rather than just use it on my face.
I used it on my neck and decolletage, because they're both very delicate areas that don't often get the love and TLC that we give our facial skin. It pays to be mindful of this area, as it is usually one of the first signs of aging, especially in women!
My skin certainly felt radiant and smooth and clean afterward, and it even helped to smooth out those annoying, flesh-colored bumps I sometimes get on my chest area!
Would I use it again?: Specifically for my neck/decolletage area, absolutely.
Would I buy it?: Yes! Get it here.
Bottom line: I loved being able to use a mask on my decolletage and neck area, somewhere I don't usually pamper with a "mask". If you've never tried pampering that area, you should!
"Finely ground Persian walnut shells help to exfoliate all the dead skin that’s been holding you back."
I was surprised to see that this scrub used walnut and peppermint, similar to what I already use in my Peppermint Walnut Scrub from Banish! I had never seen another company use those two ingredients together prior to Banish, so I was especially intrigued to see what Perfectly Posh had to bring to the table. The main ingredients may be fairly similar, but I found them both very different products, both with something to add.
The Peppermint Walnut Scrub from Banish is more of a gritty product, and when you move it around on damp skin it almost lathers on the skin, giving a very deep, intense exfoliation. This is perfect, if that's what you're looking for.
But for people with sensitive skin, the scrub from Banish may be a bit too much, and for them - Complexion Perfection is the next best thing! It offers the same benefits (using the same main ingredients) but in a gentler, liquid formula. I didn't find this to be too harsh, I didn't find it to be drying, and because it is more of a liquid than a gritty mixture, it is ideal for people with sensitive skin!
It did have a bit of a strange, slimey texture to it, but I kind of liked it! It was weird and unique, but it totally didn't affect the performance of the product or my enjoyment of it.
Would I use it again?: Yes!
Would I buy it?: Probably not. Although I do think this scrub holds a lot of value for people with very sensitive skin, it's not something I think my skin type works best with. Get it here.
Bottom line: I think this scrub has a lot of potential, particularly for followers who have sensitive skin.
"Wake up your complexion with a blast of natural glycerin and a caffeine kick that tightens and brightens. Apply as needed to awaken your skin and achieve instant radiance."
I think that of all the things I use on my face, moisturizers are the things I am most skeptical to try. There are just so many lousy products out there that irritate my skin, or cause me to break out, and because a moisturizer is something that's left on your skin, it tends to be a very sensitive area for these particular problems.
Despite this skepticism and reluctance to try a new moisturizer, I was particularly excited about this moisturizer, because of the caffeine in it. I love caffeine ... for my face! Not only is it a beautiful perk-up for dull and tired skin, but it may also help with your acne! Yes, you read me right - I talk about caffeine at some length in my e-book, so if you want to learn more about what caffeine can do for your acne, be sure to check it out here.
I was pleasantly surprised that, not only did it not break me out (huuuge bonus), it was a light yet rich creme with a soft, fruity scent that left my skin feeling perky and uber soft all day long. It was almost a shame to wash it off that night.
Would I use it again?: Yes!
Would I buy it?: I'm definitely considering adding it to my list of things to buy! Get it here.
Bottom line: Acne? Dull skin? Aging skin? Yeah. This moisturizer might be for you.
"Rainforest Alliance Palm Oil and shea butter moisturize and hydrate, while lemon peel keeps you bouncing."
First of all, I could smell this thing through the wrapper, and I was immediately captivated. I don't know if everyone will feel this way, lemon is just kind of my thing. Like, I love everything lemon. When I smell lemons, I think lemon cakes and lemon pastries, lemon trees and lemon tea. Anyway, because I was excited to use it, I took it out of the wrapper, and, after running it under my nose about five or six times, I put it in the shower to remind myself to try it out that night when I showered. Well, wasn't it like a tropical lemon fest in my bathroom every time I went in there. Totally brightened my day, and I didn't even use it! Makes me wonder if this lovely soap bar could double as an air freshener? Hmmm ..
Either way, I of course enjoyed using the soap in the shower, mostly for the smell - I love to smell pretty and clean without using harsh, irritating fragrances. Thus, I usually smell like nothing because most of my products are unscented or have such a mild smell you can't even smell them. This soap let me smell a little bit like lemons for most of the day, which was, to say the least, delightful. It wasn't an overpowering smell at all, nothing you'd get kicked out of a fragrance-free zone for, or anything, but it was instead just a hint of lemon that gently caressed my olfactory epithelium to keep a little grin on my face when I would catch a hint.
All of this and I haven't even gotten to the point of the soap yet - how did it work!? Well, it worked ... like a soap! It lathered on my bath gloves just fine, and it cleansed my body well without over-drying it. My skin tends to be very sensitive to drying out, as we have very hard water, and so I can usually immediately notice if a soap is too harsh for my skin. This one, however, didn't leave me feeling dry (you know, that uncomfortable squeaky-clean-not-a-shred-of-natural-oil-left-on-your-skin feeling?).
Would I use it again?: Absolutely! I'm already looking forward to my next use.
Would I buy it?: 100%. I might even buy another one just to try it as an air freshener. Get it here.
Bottom line: I think this product is fantastic, and I would highly recommend it!
I wanted to finish strong with this soap because I feel like it sums up the way I feel about the products that I've tried. I am definitely not left wanting, and I will absolutely go back for more. I have my eye on the Kale Face mask!
Now, I know what you're probably thinking - there's no way you could love all the products you tried. I know. If I were you, I probably wouldn't believe it, either. But I assure you, I was not paid to write this, nor am I getting any commission if you order anything from PP. I just really liked the products that I tried, and I always want to give shout outs to companies with vegan products that work well for acne-prone skin whenever I can! So go give them some love, and if you try out their products, be sure to let me know below!
